Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate the vegetative growth, yield, fruit quality, and survival of purple passion fruit grafted onto a rootstock tolerant to fusarium wilt in an area with a history of this disease. The treatments were the combination of three elite accessions of purple passion fruit (PutEdu01, TesEdu11, and a commercial accession as the control) and three rootstocks (ungrafted, autografted, and grafted onto Passiflora maliformis). TesEdu11 grafted onto P. maliformis shows the highest estimated yield at 307 days after transplanting in areas with fusarium wilt incidence.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o desenvolvimento vegetativo, a produção, a qualidade do fruto e a sobrevivência do maracujá-roxo enxertado em um porta-enxerto tolerante à fusariose, em uma área com histórico de ocorrência da doença. Os tratamentos foram combinações de três acessos elite de maracujá-roxo (PutEdu01, TesEdu11 e um acesso comercial como controle) e três porta-enxertos (pé-franco, autoenxerto e enxerto em Passiflora maliformis). TesEdu11 enxertada em P. maliformis apresenta a maior produção estimada aos 307 dias após transplante em áreas com incidência de fusariose.

ABSTRACT The aim of this work was to determine the influence of Passiflora maliformis as rootstock on the physical characteristics of fruits, productivity, and profitability of the purple passion fruit. The study was carried out from May 2020 to April 2021, under a 3 × 3 factorial design distributed in blocks with three repetitions. The treatments were represented by three scions of elite accessions of purple passion fruit PutEdu01, TesEdu11 and a commercial scion, and three rootstocks, ungrafted, autografted and P. maliformis. Conventional cleft grafting was used. The fresh fruit mass, the shell weight, the pulp weight, the fruit diameter, the polar diameter of the fruit, the percentage of pulp and skin were evaluated. As economic variables, production costs, income, and their cost benefit ratio were determined. The quality of the fruits derived from the grafted accessions in P. maliformis was within the fresh marketing standards, presenting a pulp yield of more than 50%. The combinations of the purple passion fruit TesEdu11 accessions and the commercial one grafted onto P. maliformis as the elite accession PutEdu01 without grafting were financially attractive because they presented a cost-benefit ratio greater than one at two years after starting the crop.

RESUMEN El cultivo del maracuyá amarillo en Colombia carece de estudios genéticos detallados que permitan establecer la variabilidad intraespecífica como base para un programa de fitomejoramiento. El objetivo de esta investigación fue establecer las relaciones genéticas entre accesiones de diferentes orígenes geográficos con base en una caracterización agromorfológica. Esta investigación se realizó en el municipio de Palestina (Caldas), en la granja Luker localizada a 1050 m s.n.m. Se caracterizaron 52 accesiones provenientes de Colombia (47), Ecuador (3), Brasil (1) y Costa Rica (1) con 45 descriptores agromorfológicos complementados con evaluaciones fitosanitarias. Los descriptores cuantitativos (25) fueron sometidos a análisis de descomposición de la varianza y de componentes principales (ACP), y con los cualitativos (18) se realizó un análisis factorial de correspondencias múltiples (AFCM). El análisis de clasificación por el método del vecino más próximo (neighbor-joining - NJ) fue empleado para ambos tipos de descriptores. Los resultados del ACP muestran seis componentes que explican el 71.6% de la varianza total que están asociados principalmente con descriptores relacionados con las dimensiones de la flor (tubo, cámara nectarífera y opérculo) y peso del fruto (pulpa, cáscara y contenido de jugo). Se seleccionaron trece descriptores cualitativos, y se identificaron cuatro factores (44.38% inercia) asociados principalmente con la pubescencia y antocianinas en la bráctea, el peciolo y la hoja, y el color del fruto maduro. El análisis de clasificación NJ mostró que no existe relación entre las accesiones por origen geográfico, y la distancia entre individuos de una misma accesión fue superior que entre accesiones para ambos tipos de descriptores. Los trips (Neohydatothrips signifier) y la roña (Cladosporium cladosporioides) fueron las plagas que presentaron mayor incidencia en las accesiones. Seis accesiones elite fueron identificadas de acuerdo con el índice de selección por sus características sobresalientes de calidad del fruto, rendimiento y tolerancia a problemas fitosanitarios. La alta variabilidad intra-accesión y los atributos de ciertas accesiones son la base para la obtención de cultivares más productivos y tolerantes.

ABSTRACT Yellow passion fruit cultivation in Colombia lacks detailed genetic studies that allow the establishment of intraspecific variability as a basis for a breeding program. The aim of this research was to establish the genetic relationships among accessions of different geographic origins through an agro-morphological characterization. This research was carried out in the municipality of Palestina (Caldas) at the Luker farm located at 1050 m a.s.l. Fifty-two accessions from Colombia (47), Ecuador (3), Brazil (1), and Costa Rica (1) were characterized with 45 agro-morphological descriptors complemented with phytosanitary evaluations. The quantitative descriptors (25) were analyzed by variance decomposition and principal components (PCA), and the qualitative descriptors (18) were analyzed with the multiple correspondence factor analysis (MCFA). The classification analysis by the neighbor-joining (NJ) method was used for both types of descriptors. PCA results showed six components explaining 71.6% of the total variance that are mainly associated with descriptors related to the size of the flower (tube, nectar camera, and operculum) and weight of the fruit (pulp, shell, and juice content). Thirteen qualitative descriptors were selected, and four factors (44.38% inertia) were identified, mainly associated with pubescence and anthocyanins in the bract, petiole, leaf, and ripe fruit color. The NJ classification analysis showed no relationship between accessions by geographic origin, and the distance between individuals of the same accession was higher than among accessions for both types of descriptors. Thrips (Neohydatothrips signifier) and scab (Cladosporium cladosporioides) were the pests with the highest incidence in the accessions. Six elite accessions were identified according to the selection index with outstanding fruit quality characteristics, yield, and tolerance to phytos-anitary problems. The high intra-accession variability and traits of certain accessions are the basis for future breeding programs to obtain more productive and tolerant cultivars.

RESUMEN Passiflora tarminiana es una glicofita trepadora, nativa de la región andina que tiene tolerancia a la salinidad y estrés hídrico moderado. El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar la capacidad para la excreción de sodio como una posible estrategia de esta especie para la tolerancia a la salinidad y a la sequía. La excreción de sal y las concentraciones de iones excretados se examinaron en plantas cultivadas durante siete meses bajo varios niveles de salinidad [(NaCl) 2,5; 4,0 y 5,5 dS m-1 (25, 40 y 55 mM)] y de estrés hídrico moderado (33 y 100% de humedad en el sustrato). El experimento fue llevado a cabo en un diseño completamente al azar con un arreglo de parcelas subdivididas, donde la parcela constituye el porcentaje de saturación de agua (33 y 100%), la subparcela los niveles de saturación de sal (CE: 2,5; 4,0 y 5,5 dS m-1), con cinco repeticiones, y la unidad experimental compuesta por una planta. Se evaluaron los cristales de sal y las estructuras de la epidermis foliar. Las sales fueron excretadas en la superficie adaxial de la hoja, posiblemente debido a las glándulas secretoras de sal especializadas. Se observaron otras estructuras como tricomas y papilas, que se cree que también están implicadas en la tolerancia a la salinidad en P. tarminiana.

ABSTRACT Passiflora tarminiana is a climbing glycophyte, native to the Andean region that has tolerance to salinity and moderate water stress. The aim of this study was to evaluate its capacity for sodium excretion as a possible strategy for salinity tolerance and the drought. Salt excretion and excreted ion concentrations were evaluated in plants grown for seven months under various levels of salinity [(NaCl) 2.5, 4.0, and 5.5 dS m-1 (25, 40 and 55 mM)] and moderate water stress (33 and 100% moisture in the substrate). The experiment design was completely randomized in a split-plot array, where the plot was determined by the percentage of water saturation (33% and 100%). The ubplot had saturation levels of salinity (EC: 2.5, 4.0, and 5.5 dS m-1), with five replicates. The experiment unit consisted of one plant. Salt crystals and structures of the leaf epidermis were evaluated. Salts were excreted in the adaxial leaf surface, possibly because of specialized salt secreting glands. Other structures, such as trichomes and papillae, were also observed, which are believed to also be involved in the salt tolerance of P. tarminiana.

RESUMEN Colombia es uno de los principales productores de maracuyá a nivel mundial y los estudios genéticos basados en marcadores moleculares en cultivos comerciales no han sido considerados para la selección de genotipos superiores para responder a las demandas del mercado. El objetivo de este estudio fue determinar la variabilidad genética y la estructura poblacional de 51 accesiones colombianas (102 individuos), y proveer información necesaria para futuros programas de mejoramiento genético. Un total de seis microsatélites fueron amplificados con 58 alelos identificados y un promedio de 9,66 alelos por locus, entre ellos nueve únicos y 31 raros. Los índices de diversidad mostraron un contenido de información polimórfica de 0,74 (PIC), y una heterocigocidad promedio observada (Ho) y esperada (He) de 0,52 y 0,78. La distribución espacial mostro que la mayor riqueza alélica (11 to 14) se localiza en las accesiones del Valle del Cauca. El promedio de distancia genética entre accesiones fue de 0,68 y el análisis de clasificación mostró tres grupos principales levemente soportados (bootstrap <50%), con poca estructuración geográfica y alta diferenciación entre individuos de una misma accesión. El análisis de estructura poblacional indicó un K=4 con el nivel jerárquico superior frente a los demás, mientras que la agrupación Bayesiana mostró una división de los individuos en cuatro grupos genéticamente distintos. La poca estructuración geográfica y la alta variabilidad de las accesiones podría explicarse por el fenómeno de alogamia y el constante intercambio de semillas entre productores. Los resultados sugieren una evaluación agro-morfológica complementaria que permita establecer la variabilidad genética total e implementar un programa de mejoramiento genético por medio de la selección asistida de genotipos superiores en búsqueda de cultivares más productivos y resistentes a problemas fitosanitarios.

ABSTRACT Colombia is one of the leading producers of yellow passion fruit but the genetic studies based on molecular markers from commercial plantations have not been considered to select interesting market material. The goal of this study was to assess the genetic variability and the population structure of 51 Colombian commercial yellow passion fruit accessions (102 individuals), and to provide the necessary information for prospective selection and breeding programs. Thus, a total of six microsatellites were amplified with 58 alleles identified and an average of 9.66 alleles per locus, including nine private and 31 rare. Diversity indexes showed polymorphic information content values of 0.74 (PIC), an observed (Ho) and expected (He) heterozygosity average of 0.52 and 0.78, respectively. Spatial distribution showed the greatest allelic richness (11 to 14) in most of the Valle del Cauca accessions. The average genetic distance among accessions was 0.68, and the cluster analysis showed three main groups poorly supported (bootstrap <50%), with slight geographical structure and high differentiation between individuals of the same accession. Structure analysis indicated K=4 as the genetic structure's uppermost hierarchical level, while Bayesian clustering showed a division of individuals into four genetically distinct groups. The low geographic structure and high variability of the accessions could be explained by allogamy and seed exchange frequency among farmers. Results issued suggest a complementary agro-morphological assessment to establish total genetic variability and implement a breeding program through assisted selection of superior genotypes in search of more productive and resistant cultivars to phytosanitary problems.

La granadilla es la segunda especie en importancia económica del género Passiflora, por su fruto comestible y comercialización en los mercados internacionales. Sin embargo, existe poca información acerca de la variabilidad, lo que ha limitado un mejor desarrollo del cultivo. El objetivo del estudio fue colectar y caracterizar cultivos de granadilla para establecer el grado de variabilidad genética del fruto como base para el mejoramiento genético. Las colectas se realizaron en 35 municipios de 11 departamentos de la región andina entre 1.567 a 2.410 msnm y en cada finca visitada se registró el manejo agronómico y el origen geográfico de la semilla. Diez frutos (calidad extra) por cultivo fueron seleccionados al azar de las plantas más sobresalientes (productividad y sanidad) con la participación de los productores. Análisis univariado y de clasificación (neighbor joining) fueron empleados en la caracterización del fruto con 11 variables fisicoquímicas. Los resultados identificaron a la mosca del ovario (Dasiops spp.) y antracnosis (Colletotrichum gloeosporioides) como los problemas fitosanitarios con mayor afectación en las 48 accesiones colectadas. La caracterización del fruto mostró un coeficiente de variación promedio total de 11,34%, destacándose las variables peso de la cáscara (14,61%) y el jugo (14,41%). En cuanto a los parámetros de calidad, se identificaron siete accesiones élite con peso del fruto >134 g, °Brix>14,4 y pulpa+semilla >52%. La clasificación arbórea estableció una relativa variabilidad intraespecífica con poca estructuración de origen geográfica entre las accesiones. Estas accesiones élite identificadas son la base para el inicio de un proceso de mejoramiento genético a partir de genotipos bien diferenciados y con características agronómicas de interés.

The sweet granadilla is the second-ranked species in the Passiflora genus in terms of economic importance due to its edibility and commercialization in international markets. However, there is little information on its variability, which has limited any betterment of crop development. The objective of this study was to collect and characterize passion fruit crops to establish the degree of genetic variability of this fruit for breeding purposes. Collections were made in 35 municipalities located in 11 departments of the Andean region, between 1,567 and 2,410 m a.s.l.; on each farm, the farm crop management and geographic origin of the seeds were registered. Ten fruits per crop were randomly selected (extra quality) from the outstanding plants (productivity and health) with the cooperation of the farmers. Univariate and classification (neighbor joining) analyses were used for the characterization of the fruits with 11 physicochemical variables. The results identified lonchaeid flies (Dasiops spp.) and anthracnose (Colletotrichum gloeosporioides) as the main phytosanitary problems in the 48 accessions collected. The fruit characterization showed a total average coefficient of variation of 11.34%, with notable results for the variables of weight of the fruit peel (14.61%) and the juice (14.41%). For the quality parameters, seven elite accessions were identified, with fruit weight >134 g, °Brix >14.4 and pulp+seed>52%. The cluster analysis established a relative intraspecific variability with slight structuring due to geographic origin among the accessions. These elite accessions are the basis for beginning a breeding process with distinct genotypes and agronomic traits of interest.

El maracuyá (P. edulis f. flavicarpa), la granadilla (P. ligularis) y la gulupa (P. edulis f. edulis) son económicamente las principales especies del género Passiflora L. por su fruto comestible y comercialización en mercados locales e internacionales. El objetivo de este estudio fue identificar el comportamiento fisiológico de la semilla de maracuyá, granadilla y gulupa frente al almacenamiento como una contribución a la conservación ex situ. El diseño experimental utilizado fue completamente al azar con cinco tratamientos y tres repeticiones siguiendo el protocolo de Hong y Ellis (1996). Las semillas de maracuyá y gulupa fueron secadas en cuartos con flujo continuo de aire (20°C±2 y 35% humedad relativa [HR]), donde se les disminuyó el contenido de humedad hasta un rango óptimo de 10-12% en 5 horas y obteniendo una germinación de 100 y 77,1%, respectivamente. En la granadilla, la desecación tardó 20 horas y las semillas germinaron en un 79,5%. Posteriormente, la disminución hasta 6% (20°C±2 y10% HR) tardó 60 horas, para maracuyá y gulupa con una germinación de 81,2 y 98,6%, respectivamente y 105 horas para granadilla con un 91,4% de germinación. De acuerdo con el protocolo mencionado, se conservaron durante 6 meses, evaluándose en el primero, tercero y sexto mes con una germinación promedio del 94,1% para maracuyá, 90,9% para granadilla y 87,9% para gulupa. Lo anterior sugiere que las semillas de las tres especies estudiadas presentan tolerancia a la desecación y posiblemente pertenecen a la categoría ortodoxa. Estos resultados contribuyen al manejo y conservación de los recursos genéticos de los frutales neotropicales.

Yellow (P. edulis f. flavicarpa), sweet (P. ligularis) and purple passion fruits (P. edulis f. edulis) are economically the main species of the Passiflora L. genus with edible fruits that are marketed in local and international markets. The objective of this study was to identify the physiological behavior of the seeds of yellow passion fruit, sweet passion fruit and purple passion fruit during storage for contribution to ex situ conservation. The experimental design was completely randomized with five treatments and three replications following the protocol of Hong and Ellis (1996). Firstly, the seeds were dried in chambers with a continuous air flow (22°C and 35% relative humidity [RH]), with a decrease in moisture content to the optimum range of 10-12%, for 5 hours for yellow passion fruit and purple passion fruit, obtaining 100% and 77.1% germination, respectively. In the case of sweet passion fruit, desiccation took 20 hours with 79.5% germination. Afterwards, decreasing the moisture content to 6% (21°C and 10% RH) took 60 hours for yellow passion fruit and purple passion fruit, with a germination of 81.2% and 98.6%, respectively, and 105 hours for sweet passion fruit, with 91.4% germination. According to the mentioned protocol, the treatments underwent conservation assessments for 6 months at the 1st, 3rd and 6th month, with an average germination of 94.1% for yellow passion fruit, 90.9% for sweet passion fruit and 87.9% for purple passion fruit. This suggests that the seeds of the three species are tolerant to desiccation and possibly belong to the orthodox category. These results contribute to the management and conservation of plant genetic resources of Neotropical fruit.

El maracuyá es uno de los principales frutales del Neotrópico y en Colombia existen cerca de 6000 ha cultivadas con esta fruta, con una producción de 90,000 t/año. No obstante este potencial, los cultivos presentan graves problemas fitosanitarios y degeneración genética, lo que se manifiesta por una reducción de la vida útil de la plantación. El objetivo de esta investigación fue evaluar el grado de variabilidad genética del maracuyá cultivado en Colombia como base para un programa de fitomejoramiento. Las recolecciones se realizaron en los departamentos de Antioquia, Caldas, Cauca, Huila, Tolima y Valle del Cauca mediante una selección masal participativa con los productores. En cada cultivo, se seleccionaron diez frutos al azar (calidad extra) de las plantas más sobresalientes por productividad y sanidad, en las cuales se registró la incidencia de insectos plaga y enfermedades. Los frutos fueron caracterizados con 11 variables fisicoquímicas y analizados mediante la descomposición de la varianza (univariado) y el análisis de clasificación (neighbour joining). Los resultados mostraron que los trips (Neohydatothrips spp.) y la virosis (SMV) son los problemas fitosanitarios que más afectan el cultivo en los sitios del estudio. El análisis univariado del fruto mostró un porcentaje de variabilidad promedio total de 14.31% (CV), destacándose los pesos de la cáscara (20.53%) y de la semilla (20.47%). Tomando en cuenta los parámetros de calidad (°Brix y %pulpa + semilla) se identificaron ocho accesiones élite provenientes de Caldas, Valle del Cauca y Antioquia. El análisis de clasificación mostró una alta variabilidad, con poca estructuración por origen geográfico. Estos resultados permitirán iniciar un proceso de mejoramiento genético a partir de genotipos superiores de las accesiones élite identificadas.

Yellow passion fruit is one of the main fruit of the Neotropic and in Colombia there are about 6.000 ha with a 90.000 t/year production. Despite this potential, crops are affected by serious phytosanitary problems, genetic degeneration and lack of breeding in those species that have allowed a reduction of their crop cycle. The objective of this research was to determine the genetic variability degree yellow passion fruit cultivated in Colombia as the basis for a breeding program. The collections were made in the departments of Antioquia, Caldas, Cauca, Huila, Tolima and Valle del Cauca through farmer's participatory mass selection. Ten fruits per crop were selected randomly (extra quality) of the most outstanding material (productivity and health) and the incidence of insect pests and diseases recorded. Fruits were characterized with 11 physicochemical variables and analyzed using the variance decomposition (univariate) and classification analysis (Neighbour joining). Results identified that Trips (Neohydatothrips spp.) and Virosis (SMV) are the plague and disease with greater affectation in the crops visited. The results of the fruit analysis showed a total average variability percentage (CV) of 14.31%, highlighting the weight of the fruit peel (20.53%) and the average seed weight (20.47%). Regarding quality parameters (°Brix and % pulp+seeds) eight élite accessions from Caldas, Valle de Cauca and Antioquia were identified. The classification analysis showed high variability with little structuring by geographic origin. These results will begin a breeding process from superior genotypes from the identified élite accessions.

Colombia es el país con mayor diversidad de Passifloraceae con 170 especies reportadas, tanto en formas silvestres como cultivadas. Sin embargo, existen zonas en el país donde esta riqueza ha sido poco explorada, como el departamento del Huila en el suroriente de la zona andina. Por esta razón, se revisaron las listas de inventarios con el objetivo de actualizar y establecer la distribución espacial de las especies en esta región con base en registros de herbario, literatura y datos de campo, para proponer estrategias de conservación. Un total de 26 especies pertenecientes al género Passiflora L. son registradas en el Huila entre los 1500 y 2500 msnm. Ocho de las especies son cultivadas y las otras 18 silvestres, se localizan principalmente en bordes de caminos y bosques secundarios. El bajo número de registros y de especies presentes en este departamento es el reflejo de la carencia de iniciativas de investigación sobre la biodiversidad florística. Lo anterior sugiere que esta región puede ser el escenario de muchas especies desconocidas en zonas poco o no exploradas. Por esta razón, la conservación in situ y de sus hábitats es una tarea urgente, al igual que la caracterización y evaluación de los recursos genéticos, lo que permitirá conocer los atributos de las especies silvestres y cultivadas para un mejor uso de la biodiversidad.

Colombia is the country with the greatest Passifloraceae diversity with 170 reported species of both wild and cultivated forms. However, there are areas in the country where this wealth has slightly been explored such as the department of Huila in the South East of the Andes. For this reason, inventory lists were reviewed in order to update and establish the spatial distribution of the species in this region based on herbarium records, literature and field data, and propose conservation strategies. A total of 26 species belonging to the genus Passiflora L. are recorded in Huila between 1500 and 2500 masl. Eight species are cultivated and the others 18 that are wild are found mainly along roadsides and in secondary forests. The low number of species records in this department reflects the lack of research initiatives on floristic biodiversity. This suggests that this region may harbor many unknown species in little or unexplored areas. For this reason, conservation of these species and their habitat is an urgent task, as well as the characterization and evaluation of these genetic resources.

La gulupa es la segunda especie en importancia económica del género Passiflora L., ya que se comercializa como fruta fresca y procesada en todos los continentes. El objetivo de esta investigación fue estudiar los mecanismos de polinización natural y asistida para comprender el sistema reproductivo de la gulupa, con el fin de implementar estrategias de premejoramiento genético y de conservación. Un total de 32 accesiones de 10 departamentos colombianos fueron evaluadas bajo cinco tratamientos de polinización natural y asistida en Manizales, Caldas, a 2340 m.s.n.m. Los resultados mostraron que 80% de la antesis en la gulupa ocurre entre 6:00 y 8:00 a.m., predominando las flores que poseen el estilo totalmente curvo (66.4%). Los mayores porcentajes de frutos formados se presentaron en los tratamientos de autopolinización manual y geitonogamia (82 y 86%), seguidos por la polinización cruzada (68%) con diferencias significativas (Duncan, P<0.05). La alta precipitación durante la fase de antesis (>9 mm/día) tuvo un impacto negativo sobre la polinización y la actividad de los agentes polinizadores. Los frutos de flores polinizadas manualmente y en forma natural presentaron un promedio de 151 a 157 semillas, sin diferencias significativas. Los resultados mostraron que la gulupa es una especie autofértil, que depende de los insectos polinizadores para el flujo génico y la productividad. La capacidad de autocompatibilidad de la gulupa (28 a 86%) permite a los productores conservar la calidad genética de las plantas élite o su uso en programas de mejoramiento genético para la obtención de cultivares de mayor rusticidad y productividad.

The purple passion fruit is the second economically most important species of the genus Passiflora L. as it is marketed as fresh and processed fruit in all continents. The objective of this research was to study the mechanism of natural and assisted pollination to understand gulupa reproductive system that enables the implementation of pre-breeding and conservation strategies. A total of 32 accessions from 10 Colombian departments under five pollination treatments (natural and assisted) were evaluated in Manizales, Caldas at 2,340 m.a.s.l. Results show that 80% of the anthesis in purple passion fruit occurred between 6:00 and 8:00 hours, prevailing flowers with fully curved style (66.4%). The highest percentage of fruit formation was found in manual self-pollination and geitonogamy treatments (82 and 86%), and followed by cross-pollination (68%) with significant differences (Duncan, P<0.05). High precipitation during the anthesis phase (>9 mm/day) generated a negative impact on pollination and on the activity of pollination agents. Fruit from manually and natural pollinated flowers showed an average of 151 to 157 seeds with no significant differences. The results show that the purple passion fruit is an autofertile species that depends on pollinator insects for genetic flow and productivity. The capacity of autocompatibility of the purple passion fruit (28 to 86%) permits producers conserve the genetic quality of elite plants or their use in genetic breeding programs to obtain greater cultivar robusticity and productivity.

Los nematodos fitoparásitos son una de las mayores limitantes en la fruticultura tropical causando grandes pérdidas económicas por la reducción de los rendimientos. En Colombia no existe información respecto a estos parásitos que afectan el cultivo del maracuyá y es necesario generarla para crear estrategias de manejo. El objetivo del estudio fue identificar y cuantificar los nematodos fitoparásitos presentes en plantas de maracuyá de la Colección Nacional, conformada por 28 accesiones de diferentes procedencias establecida en la Granja Luker en Palestina, Caldas (Colombia), a 1058 m.s.n.m., 5° 4' 13.2" N y -75° 41' 7.7" O, 23 °C, 2250 mm/año y 75% de HR. La recolección de las muestras se realizó en la zona de plateo de cada planta hasta 60 cm de profundidad. En cada accesión se tomaron tres muestras de 100 g de raíces funcionales y 100 g de suelo. La extracción de nematodos de raíces y suelo se realizó con base en el principio de flotación en azúcar. Para los datos se desarrolló un análisis univariado con la estimación del promedio, el coeficiente de variación, el análisis de varianza y prueba de Tukey al 5%, para establecer las diferencias entre accesiones. Se recuperaron nematodos de siete géneros, Helicotylenchus, Rotylenchulus, Radopholus, Meloidogyne, Tylenchus, Aphelenchoides y Trichodorus. Las especies con mayor frecuencia en las accesiones, tanto en raíces como en suelo, fueron Helicotylenchus dihystera, Rotylenchulus reniformis y Radopholus similis con 100, 75 y 61%, respectivamente. Se encontraron 11, 8 y 16 accesiones de maracuyá sin parasitismo de los géneros Radopholus, Rotylenchulus y Meloidogyne, respectivamente. Dentro de éstas, sobresalen las accesiones AntFla03 y CauFla01 por sus características agronómicas, las cuales constituyen un reservorio genético para programas de fitomejoramiento en la búsqueda de resistencia o tolerancia a nematodos fitoparásitos que involucren hibridación o injertación.

Plant parasitic nematodes are one of the major constraints in tropical fruit causing great economic losses by reducing yields. In Colombia there is not information dealing with the production systems about these parasites affecting passion fruit cultivation so, it is necessary to generate information for management strategies. The aim of this study was to identify and quantify plant parasitic nematodes present in the National yellow passion fruit Collection consisting of 28 accessions from different origin and established in the farm Luker in Palestina (Caldas), Colombia. Sample collection was carried out in the root area of each plant at a depth of 60 cm in each accession. Three samples of 100 g of functional root system and 100 g of soil were taken. The extraction of root and soil nematodes was based on the flotation principle of nematodes in sugar. For data an univariate analysis with the estimated average, the coefficient of variation, analysis of variance and Tukey test at 5%, to establish the differences among accessions was performed. Results showed seven kinds of soil and root phytonematodes: Helicotylenchus, Rotylenchulus, Radopholus, Meloidogyne, Tylenchus, Aphelenchoides and Trichodorus. The species most frequently found in root and soil of accessions were Helicotylenchus dihystera, Rotylenchulus reniformis and Radopholus similis with 100, 75 and 61%, respectively. Results showed 11, 8 y 16 accessions without parasitism of the genera Radopholus, Rotylenchulus and Meloidogyne, respectively. Among these, accession AntFla03 and CauFla01 were outstanding due to their agronomic characteristics which constitute a gene pool for breeding programs in search for phytoparasitic nematode resistance or tolerance that involve hybridization or grafting.
